Massive AI Infrastructure Expansion in Hyderabad

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) subsidiary HyperVault has secured 264 acres of land in Hyderabad to develop a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data center campus. According to a company announcement on September 5, the project aims to achieve a capacity of up to 1 gigawatt (GW). HyperVault and its partners intend to invest up to Rs 70,000 crore in the development and management of the infrastructure.

The facility is designed to cater to hyperscalers and frontier AI companies. The infrastructure will be purpose-built to support high-density graphics processing unit (GPU) deployments, which are essential for AI training, inference, and other advanced computing workloads. The campus will be constructed in phases, with the scale of development contingent upon customer demand and technological evolution.

Strategic Investment and Funding Structure

The project follows a significant capital injection into HyperVault. In November 2026, TCS announced a $2 billion (approximately Rs 18,000 crore) investment into its AI data center business, HyperVault, in partnership with the global alternate asset management firm TPG INC. This funding, which will be deployed in tranches over several years, includes a $1 billion equity investment from TPG INC. HyperVault’s capital structure consists of a mix of equity from TCS and TPG INC, alongside debt.

Deepesh Kiran Nanda, CEO and managing director of HyperVault AI Data Center, stated that the infrastructure is being designed to meet increasing AI compute requirements, specifically focusing on liquid cooling, larger power blocks, and faster deployment capabilities.

Regional Economic Impact and Policy Support

The development is expected to generate several thousand direct and indirect jobs in the Telangana region. The project is also slated to incorporate green energy and water-neutral design principles.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy characterized the project as a significant development for the state’s role in the global AI infrastructure landscape. He noted that access to compute is increasingly becoming a form of public infrastructure. Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu indicated that the agreement was concluded rapidly, noting that the project originated from discussions between Chief Minister Reddy and N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2026.

Corporate Strategy

K Krithivasan, CEO and managing director of TCS, stated that the project supports the company’s “Infrastructure-to-Intelligence” strategy. This approach seeks to integrate AI-ready infrastructure with the firm’s existing cloud, engineering, and enterprise transformation capabilities. Krithivasan noted that Hyderabad provides the necessary scale and talent ecosystem to serve a global customer base.
